Note: Recaps are short tidbits from a trip; quick things I loved (or didn’t), food I ate, people I met or my general impression of a place. I love writing about my travels this way, it’s a cute memento and good way for me to remember what I was up to.
Belgium was more of a pitstop on our Eurotrip but I really enjoyed it. We took the Thalys from Paris to Antwerp and stayed for 2 nights in an old canal house Airbnb. Our room was up four flights of crazy narrow stairs and was pretty basic – I’m talking a mattress on the floor.
Even though we had carry on suitcases, getting them up here was a bit of a mission.
Antwerp is lovely, the architecture is beautiful and there are lots of cool bars and cafes around.
The town hall and clock tower are the main historical attractions – and not a bad place to enjoy a cone of frites!
Brugge was beautiful too, we took the train from Antwerp (I wish you could do this in NZ!) and spent a full day there. It was a bit grey and drizzly but some Belgian chocolate soon perked us up – free samples!
In no rush to tick off particular sites, we meandered around the canals, squares and old buildings.
Overall, Belgium was a nice place to stop for a few nights and I’d happily go back to sample a few more beers, waffles and chocolates.
